So... you want to be a TV or film composer?
Ever heard a film or television theme song, or another piece of music, and was transported back to when you first heard it? Maybe it’s the recognizable notes from Star Wars, Jaws, Halloween or Jurassic Park that conjure that memory or feeling. From comedy to horror, music has a way of evoking powerful emotions in audiences, often when words cannot.
We, at the Ottawa Film Office, caught up with Serge Côté, a local award-winning composer for film and television, to learn more about scoring for film and TV.
Les Métis, notre culture, nos histoires
Just finished scoring this amazing youth series about the Métis culture. It’s a series mixed with live action and animation. Produced by Ato Media Inc.
Ingénieux Junior podcasts
This is an 8 episode French youth podcast series where I had a lot of fun directing, writing all music, adding sound effects and mixing. Produced by Carte Blanche Films, this podcast series features host/comedian Jérémie Larouche. It’s all about Canadian inventions. Who knew we had so many!

Eaux Turbulentes
It’s been a while since I mixed a full drama series. It was fun to get back to my roots as a sound mixer. With the help of Jordy at Affinity, we mixed this amazing limited drama series. This is when being fluent in French and English comes in handy.
Produced by Les Productions Léa Pascal
Our Freedom
Glad to have composed music for this year's Remembrance vignette, “Our Freedom”. It supports the Department's mandate to promote recognition and remembrance of the achievements and sacrifices of those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace.
Noel en Boite
I just finished scoring this Franco-Ontarian romantic comedy. This was a lot of fun. Also, there was nothing more refreshing than working on a snowy Christmas movie during our extremely hot summer. Directed by Jocelyn Forgues.
CSA 2018 nomination
I have just been nominated for a 2018 Canadian Screen Award for:
Best Original Music, Animation - Jaxon and Song's Maple Mystery

Special thanks to producer Tracy Legault, who has made this all possible.
